Cook a Sunday meal with housemates and friends

Nia Campbell

I'd love a shared vegan Sunday meal where each person brings a task as well as an appetite. We can choose a playlist and sit together before the food goes cold. Good food, good company, and no session running into the night.

Who chooses the menu for the Sunday meal?

We choose it together before shopping. Everybody can bring an idea, not everybody needs to bring a whole dish. Cook together, eat together, clear together; that is the rhythm I want.

On “Cook a Sunday meal with housemates and friends”, could someone join for only the first part? I would not want to disrupt the plan by leaving early. This is why I am keeping the plan modest: I work some weekends.

That is useful feedback, even if we would choose differently. I want to keep “Cook a Sunday meal with housemates and friends” manageable for the people involved. I would plan a natural stopping point and say clearly which parts depend on everybody staying. Leaving should not become a personal explanation.

I would also like to host a plant-based meal with friends. I have tried making a little space for shared cooking; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat. I work as a small-business owner, and I work some weekends. The help I would welcome is a welcoming cooking group. I am trying to leave enough room for the ordinary parts of the week, so I would rather compare one modest attempt than agree to a bigger commitment before I know it fits.

For shared cooking, I would rather agree a small beginning than promise a long programme. Would that approach suit this wish?

I would keep “Cook a Sunday meal with housemates and friends” as one small invitation. A different version of a related wish could teach us something without either of us copying the other's whole plan.

For this wish, Nia Campbell: I would try a smaller version of my own first. Then we would have something concrete to compare. I would also like to host a plant-based meal with friends.

On “Cook a Sunday meal with housemates and friends”, that seems a sensible way to continue. We can compare actual attempts later without turning this conversation into a promise that either of us has already finished.
