We have options: clean and assess it, look for a suitable part, or leave that stage unfinished. I won't promise a complete restoration before we see it. A small car can contain a large delay.

For this wish, Hector Morales: I would enjoy talking about the attempts afterwards. I am not sure about joining the activity itself. For me, I am rebuilding confidence after a long break.

That is useful feedback, even if we would choose differently. I want to keep “Restore a toy car with a friend” manageable for the people involved. That is a useful distinction. A conversation afterwards can be its own invitation, without requiring someone to take part in everything.

I would also like to join an authorised beach cleanup with suitable equipment. I have tried making a little space for beach cleanups; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat. I work as a laboratory technician, and I am rebuilding confidence after a long break. The help I would welcome is a patient practice partner. I am trying to leave enough room for the ordinary parts of the week, so I would rather compare one modest attempt than agree to a bigger commitment before I know it fits.

I'd like a friend to join me for a seated afternoon cleaning and restoring one old toy car with suitable materials. We can share vegan snacks and stop before my back complains. The car can wait for its paint to dry; so can we.

I keep thinking about your plan to restore a toy car with a friend. Would a brief first attempt tell you more than another round of planning?

For “Restore a toy car with a friend”, I would first settle what each person can comfortably offer. Then I would choose the smallest arrangement that still feels worthwhile.

Hector Morales, I like that this stayed small. My temptation would be to add three more things before starting. I would also like to join an authorised beach cleanup with suitable equipment.

On “Restore a toy car with a friend”, I would keep the extra ideas somewhere separate. One manageable attempt gives the bigger ideas something to learn from.
