Decorate a cake with friends without competing

June Park

I'd like to invite two friends to decorate a vegetarian cake together using ingredients and tools I already have. We can make something elaborate and slightly ridiculous, then eat it. No rankings, professional networking or litigation over the icing.

Would you really stop someone making a better cake decoration?

No. I would distinguish enjoying a skill from ranking everybody else's contribution. We can admire something without appointing a winner. The cake need not resolve our competitive instincts. That is the boundary.

I would enjoy talking about the attempts afterwards. I am not sure about joining the activity itself. I need to allow for this: I usually have more time in the morning.

I hear the reservation. I am not asking you to commit just by replying. I want to keep “Decorate a cake with friends without competing” manageable for the people involved. That is a useful distinction. A conversation afterwards can be its own invitation, without requiring someone to take part in everything.

On “Decorate a cake with friends without competing”, I would also like to make a reusable map from materials I already have. For me, I usually have more time in the morning.

I would welcome someone with practical experience. Is there something comparably small that another person could offer you? That is how I see “Decorate a cake with friends without competing”.

I would keep “Decorate a cake with friends without competing” as one small invitation. A different version of a related wish could teach us something without either of us copying the other's whole plan.

I like that this stayed small. My temptation would be to add three more things before starting. I would also like to make a reusable map from materials I already have.

On “Decorate a cake with friends without competing”, I would keep the extra ideas somewhere separate. One manageable attempt gives the bigger ideas something to learn from.
