Invent terrible team nicknames over lunch

Malik Johnson

I want a low-cost team lunch in a place we've checked for access, with everyone pitching one absurd nickname. No fundraising speeches. We can vote for a favourite and make a paper badge. Elite-level nonsense deserves a seat at the table.

Five minutes is allowed. The lunch can do the rest. Is the table accessible, and can everybody get there? I'd rather settle that than establish a nickname committee.

For this wish, Malik Johnson: I would enjoy talking about the attempts afterwards. I am not sure about joining the activity itself. One thing I should say upfront: I need plans with a clear start and finish.

That is useful feedback, even if we would choose differently. I want to keep “Invent terrible team nicknames over lunch” manageable for the people involved. That is a useful distinction. A conversation afterwards can be its own invitation, without requiring someone to take part in everything.

I would also like to make a short list of local places with quieter corners. I have tried making a little space for access planning; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat.

For this wish, Malik Johnson: Would you put this on LinkedIn, or would that make a small personal wish feel like a work achievement?

For this wish, Anneli Karjalainen: I would share a useful lesson there only if I wanted that audience. I do not want every pleasant activity to become evidence of professional productivity.

I like that this stayed small. My temptation would be to add three more things before starting. I would also like to make a short list of local places with quieter corners.

For this wish, Anneli Karjalainen: I would keep the extra ideas somewhere separate. One manageable attempt gives the bigger ideas something to learn from.
