Take a local herb walk with a friend

Mei-Ling Chen

I would like someone else to organise a short accessible outing for us to look at familiar garden herbs, with permission where needed. We can draw what we see and share a vegetarian lunch. I am taking a day away from kitchen coordination. Just one day, properly away.

Would the herb walk include picking plants?

Not unless it is appropriate and permitted. Please do not assume we will collect anything. Looking and talking can be enough. I would like a short local walk, and I want to keep it short.

I might just watch the first time. I do not want an invitation that turns into pressure once I arrive. The practical limit is that I cannot commit to every week.

I want to give it a try without pretending the concerns have vanished. I want to keep “Take a local herb walk with a friend” manageable for the people involved. Then watching needs to remain an option throughout. I should make the invitation match that, rather than say it only to get someone through the door.

On “Take a local herb walk with a friend”, I would also like to ask a relative whether they would like to record a short memory. I have tried making a little space for audio interviews; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat.

With audio interviews, I tend to notice how much preparation sits behind the nice result. What would you leave out here?

“Take a local herb walk with a friend” is the starting point, not a promise of a perfect result. I would ask what would make one attempt possible and listen to the answer.

On “Take a local herb walk with a friend”, I would join the conversation again when the practical details are clearer. No promises beyond that yet. I would also like to ask a relative whether they would like to record a short memory.

That is enough. I can come back with a clearer arrangement and let people decide then, rather than treat interest as attendance. That is how I see “Take a local herb walk with a friend”.
