Ask what training, income protection and working conditions they need before settling the proposal. What would you map at the port?

For my wish, “Help workers design a quieter, cleaner port”: Noise and the parts of a normal shift people find difficult, then check my assumptions with those doing the work.

That gives negotiations something concrete. A general promise of a better future is not enough to plan a working life around.

1. Map a normal shift with the workers. 2. Identify the proposed changes and who carries each cost. 3. Put training time and pay protection in the negotiation.
One caveat: a workshop attended only by people free on the day could give us a rather selective map.

The employer must make participation possible during paid time. Worker representatives should check the account before it is used in negotiations. Record the unanswered questions and name who must answer them. People should not have to trust a tidy diagram. I would make time to hear the untidy parts.
