Find a workable first step for chess puzzles

Ephantus Nduta

The ambition is to organise a short chess afternoon with room for complete beginners. I need to plan around this: my work rota changes from week to week.

This connects with my interest in chess puzzles. This is the sort of modest plan I actually want to hear about. What might get in the way?

Probably trying to fit too much into it. I would rather leave one part unfinished than make the whole thing difficult to attend. I need to allow for this: my work rota changes from week to week. That is how I see “Find a workable first step for chess puzzles”.

Ephantus Nduta, yes. Leave something for another day rather than turn the first go into a marathon. I like the idea, but I cannot promise to turn up. Can I stay in the conversation without saying yes?

I want to give it a try without pretending the concerns have vanished. With chess puzzles, I am a regular amateur. Yes. Staying curious is enough for now. I would rather have an honest maybe than a yes that makes someone uncomfortable.

I would also like to learn a basic king-and-pawn endgame. I have tried making a little space for chess puzzles; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat.

That gives us two related aims to compare. I would like to organise a short chess afternoon with room for complete beginners. My work rota changes from week to week.

My own aim is to learn a basic king-and-pawn endgame. Which part of your plan could we compare without assuming they are the same activity?

For this attempt at “Find a workable first step for chess puzzles”, honest encouragement would help. Practical suggestions are welcome too, provided we leave room to decide against them.

On “Find a workable first step for chess puzzles”, yes. I want to keep track of what was workable, what took more effort than expected and what I would leave out next time. The help I would value is someone with practical experience.
