Try a beginner pottery workshop

Andrea Kelly

I am keen to learn with others with visible mending. I would like this to fit everyday life: I work some weekends. I would welcome a low-cost materials tip.

Coming at this through visible mending, I have a question. It sounds pleasant, but not particularly original.

I am not aiming for originality. I would like an ordinary activity to fit into my life and include some company. The practical limit is that I work some weekends.

I would be up for comparing attempts, even if joining in person is not practical. Would that help? This is why I am keeping the plan modest: I am rebuilding confidence after a long break.

I can leave that question open until the practical details are clearer. With visible mending, I am keen to learn with others. Comparing a small attempt could work without pretending we are in the same place. We can agree what to share and leave private details out.

I would also like to learn to repair a favourite piece of clothing. For me, I am rebuilding confidence after a long break. I work as a part-time student and café worker, and I am rebuilding confidence after a long break. The help I would welcome is a patient teacher. I am trying to leave enough room for the ordinary parts of the week, so I would rather compare one modest attempt than agree to a bigger commitment before I know it fits.

That gives us two related aims to compare. I would like to try a beginner pottery workshop. I need to allow for this: I work some weekends.

I am interested in trying visible mending at a manageable scale. Would you prefer a practical suggestion or just some encouragement today?

“Try a beginner pottery workshop” is the starting point, not a promise of a perfect result. I would ask what would make one attempt possible and listen to the answer.

Andrea Kelly, I am still not completely convinced, but I would read a follow-up after you try it. I would also like to learn to repair a favourite piece of clothing.

For this wish, Cazimir Cristea: That is fair. I would rather return with an honest account of an attempt than ask you to be enthusiastic in advance. The help I would value is a low-cost materials tip.
