Share something I learn about pastry

Jordan Stevens

A useful note or a small example could help another beginner. I want to try it myself first.

I would welcome someone interested in swapping family recipes. I'd rather see one attempt than another carefully written plan.

David Aguilar, I understand. Writing it down has helped me choose a first step, but it is not the same as taking it. This is why I am keeping the plan modest: I cannot commit to every week.

For this wish, Jordan Stevens: I would enjoy talking about the attempts afterwards. I am not sure about joining the activity itself. My plan has to fit this: I rely on public transport for most outings.

I would like room to change the arrangement after the first attempt. With pastry, I am experienced but still curious. That is a useful distinction. A conversation afterwards can be its own invitation, without requiring someone to take part in everything.

I would also like to write down a recipe I normally make by eye. For me, I rely on public transport for most outings.

That gives us two related aims to compare. I would like to cook a family recipe with someone who knows it. The practical limit is that I cannot commit to every week.

For this wish, Jordan Stevens: I am interested in trying pastry at a manageable scale. Would you prefer a practical suggestion or just some encouragement today?

“Share something I learn about pastry” is the starting point, not a promise of a perfect result. I would ask what would make one attempt possible and listen to the answer.

I like that this stayed small. My temptation would be to add three more things before starting. I would also like to write down a recipe I normally make by eye.

David Aguilar, I would keep the extra ideas somewhere separate. One manageable attempt gives the bigger ideas something to learn from. The help I would value is an affordable ingredient substitution.
