It might be easier alone. I want some company as well as the activity; that is a separate part of the wish. I cannot ignore the fact that I am rebuilding confidence after a long break.

For this wish, Francoise Stumpf: Fair distinction. I would still choose the solo version, but I see what you mean. Could someone join for only the first part? I would not want to disrupt the plan by leaving early.

That is useful feedback, even if we would choose differently. With gardening, I am just starting. I would plan a natural stopping point and say clearly which parts depend on everybody staying. Leaving should not become a personal explanation.

Francoise Stumpf, I would also like to find a shaded walking route close to home. I have tried making a little space for gardening; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat.

That gives us two related aims to compare. I would like to identify five birds in a nearby park. For me, I am rebuilding confidence after a long break.

With gardening, I tend to notice how much preparation sits behind the nice result. What would you leave out here?

Tiffany Lewis, I do not think “Identify five birds in a nearby park” needs to grow before it is worth trying. I would welcome a small practical suggestion and keep the extra possibilities for later.

I would try a smaller version of my own first. Then we would have something concrete to compare. I would also like to find a shaded walking route close to home.

For this wish, Tiffany Lewis: That seems a sensible way to continue. We can compare actual attempts later without turning this conversation into a promise that either of us has already finished. The help I would value is a patient birdwatching companion.
