Coming at this through family recipes, I have a question. Would the person sharing a family recipe get credit if it was written up?

Yes, with their agreement about what can be shared. A recipe conversation does not automatically give me permission to publish somebody's family story. The practical limit is that I prefer quieter places and smaller groups.

On “Share something I learn about family recipes”, I would be up for comparing attempts, even if joining in person is not practical. Would that help? This is why I am keeping the plan modest: I am still finding my way around a new neighbourhood.

I can leave that question open until the practical details are clearer. With family recipes, I am experienced but still curious. Comparing a small attempt could work without pretending we are in the same place. We can agree what to share and leave private details out.

That is fair. I would rather return with an honest account of an attempt than ask you to be enthusiastic in advance. The help I would value is someone interested in swapping family recipes.
