I am interested in team shooters too. Does every participant have to contribute something visible?

No. Listening, helping with a small job or simply being there can count. I do not want everyone performing participation. For me, I am still finding my way around a new neighbourhood.

I can work with that distinction. With team shooters, I am comfortable with the basics. We would need to agree the practical details and whether it suits both of us. Interest here is not a booking or an obligation.

I would also like to learn the basics of a new strategy game. I have tried making a little space for team shooters; the difficult part was keeping the session small enough to repeat.

I would change whatever makes joining harder without adding much to the experience. The main wish can stay; the arrangement does not have to be fixed. The help I would value is a patient practice partner. That is how I see “Find a workable first step for team shooters”.
